So You’re going to the Elf on the Shelf’s Magical Holiday Journey!!

Are you ready to kick off the holiday season in Southern California?! We were so excited to be invited to experience all the magic of the Elf on the Shelf’s Magical Holiday Journey in Pomona, CA.

Last year, this sold out experience was a drive through journey, but this year they have changed it up! The experience is part walk through, part trolley ride and ALL fun! The lighting design of the experience was created by the wonderfully talented David Korins of Broadway fame. It truly is a wonder to behold.

You begin your evening by writing letters to Santa on magical paper, which will be handed off to the elves until the end of the experience. Once you’re ready to begin, you go through a shrinking tunnel to shrink down to elf size! Santa had to make an emergency landing and he needs your help. The elves are measuring Christmas spirit, which needs to grow to repair Santa’s sleigh and get him back on his way to the North Pole!

You walk through a beautiful light up experience, complete with scout elves everywhere performing all sorts of fun shows like juggling and acrobatics. At one point, you enter a room that smells deliciously like gingerbread, and the elves perform a fun song and dance on a gingerbread cake to raise the Christmas spirit. From there, you enter your Holly Jolly Trolley, where you are whisked through even more elf hi-jinx. All the while, you are spotting sleigh bells that need to be returned to Santa’s sleigh. 

Between watching the performances, and spotting the sleigh bells, the kids were ALL IN on this experience. They had a blast counting how many bells they saw and laughing at the scout elves everywhere. By the time we had raised Christmas spirit and been driven through the unshrinking tunnel, they were so excited to see who would be waiting for us on the other side. Sure enough, Santa was there to give a cute little speech thanking us for helping him and the scout elves.

At this point, you exit the trolley and walk out into the Christmas Village marketplace. But first! Remember those letters to Santa? They’ve been shrunk down to elf size, which makes for some very cute ornaments. It’s such a fun little token to take home from your experience.

At the exit is the marketplace, complete with a bar and food trucks. We were excited to get some hot cocoa and WARM, fresh out of the oven chocolate chip cookies. There’s also a gift shop with all sorts of Elf on the Shelf merchandise, as well as an ice rink where you can go ice skating for an additional fee.

Based on availability, you can also purchase a VIP add on for your group, which allows for a picture with Santa, as well as free hot cocoa for everyone in your party and a premium parking spot.
